Maori Embodied Knowledge in Dance Education - Led by Rawiri Hindle

He is offering back-to-back workshops over a 1 1/2 -hour period. Te neke o Ngā Atua explores the movement of the Māori Gods or Elemental forces. Karanga atu, Karanga mai examines 3 stages of the karanga (the call and respond when visitors come on to the marae): Whakatau (Welcome, to settle…), Tangi (to grieve) and Kaupapa (the reason for the gathering together). These concepts within the karanga become the motivation and starting point for the dance. These workshops encourage collaboration and the application of movement, voice, sound, reo, and gesture.
